  1. Clermont Educational Opportunities Scholarship Fundraiser a Big Success!

If you didn't make it out to the basketball game at Milford High School on November 5th you missed an exciting game with plenty of high flying slam dunks, amazing plays and great family fun as our team of local sports celebrities, along with teachers and coaches from schools throughout the county took on the pros. (See pictures of the event in our photo gallery.)

With a lot of planning and effort and with amazing support from businesses throughout Clermont County, the Harlem Ambassadors event raised nearly $7,000 for the Last Dollar Grant Scholarship Fund! "We're thrilled that the event was so successful considering this was our first year planning something like this", says Nancy Hall, Program Manager for CEO. Everyone in attendance had a great time and Hall says that many who came to the game were asking for the Harlem Ambassadors to come back next year. "We're already working on that," Hall says. "The Ambassadors is a great organization and we're looking at setting a date for their return next fall." Even the former Xavier and UC players on the CEO team are looking forward to participating next year. Curtis Bostic, former UC player, enjoyed playing against the Harlem Ambassadors so much that he plans on bringing along other former UC basketball players next year to play for the CEO team.

Special thanks go out to our sponsors who helped make this event so successful:

  2. Community Development - Felicity

Felicity has been and continues to be the area of focus for the Community Development program. Over a year ago, the residents of Felicity were surveyed and the ensuing results showed that the community needed and wanted better housing, a return of jobs to the area and a way to rebuild the relationships between the youth and the adults of the area. Focusing on that, we began a very intensive and comprehensive program to bring those three findings to a successful conclusion.

Working with Potterhill Homes, the style and type of housing to be build in the Felicity/Franklin Township area was identified. The housing will be geared toward first time homebuyers, which are in professionals fields such as teaching, nursing, blue collar manufacturing/commercial jobs etc. The hope is that these folks will want to invest not only in the housing market, but will realize the value of rearing a family in the beautiful rural countryside of south western Clermont County.

Addressing the next issue identified from the survey, building better relationships between adults and children, the 2006 LEAD Clermont class conducted a developmental assets survey with students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in the Felicity Franklin schools. The survey, focused on 40 positive experiences and qualities that all of us have the power to bring into the lives of children and youth. The results of this survey were presented to the community at a kickoff on Nov. 14th at 7:00 pm at the Felicity/Franklin high school. The philosophy behind this asset approach to a positive community is that the developmental assets appeals to our common senses and thus is easy to understand.

Our thanks to the FINE 2020 organization, their leadership and their members for their undying dedication to the Felicity/ Franklin Community. Without a strong and committed community association, NONE of the positive changes that have taken place and continue to do so would be possible. We look forward to continuing work in the Felicity/Franklin area and working with the citizens of a community dedicated to positive change.

  7. Succeed with Integrity

What are the characteristics of people with integrity - people who can be trusted when they give their word about anything, from keeping appointments to maintaining their loyalties?
    1. They establish integrity as a top priority. It is the cornerstone of their actions and desires.
    2. They have clear, uncompromised values and communicate them without hesitation.
    3. They do what is right and ethical regardless of the circumstances - no hidden agendas, no political games, and no regrets.
    4. They never compromise their integrity by rationalizing a situation as 'an isolated incident.' There are no 'isolated incidents.' They have decided where their integrity boundaries exist and stay within them.
    5. They never allow achieving results to become more important than the means to their achievement. How they win is just as important as winning.
    6. They do what they say they will do. Their integrity is judged every time they say they are going to do something - regardless of how insignificant they consider the commitment.
