March is MRDD Awareness Month

Each year, the Clermont County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities celebrates the accomplishments of people with disabilities in our community by recognizing March as MRDD Awareness Month. Several exciting events are planned this year to raise awareness about programs and services that are offered to children and adults in Clermont County.

Join in the celebration and help us distribute this year's theme to all Clermont County citizens: "FOCUS... on what we CAN do. I may have a developmental disability but I can vote, I can volunteer, I can work, and I can be a friend."

Help Keep Clermont County "Clean and Green"
  Saturday, April 21, 2007

Clermont County needs you! On Saturday, April 21st from 9:00 AM- 12:00 noon, Clermont County’s largest clean up takes place. Becky Ploucha, Director of the Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green Program explains "This is our 9th annual Great American Clean and Green Spring Litter Pickup. Thanks to our great Community Captains and volunteers it gets bigger and better every year! We will have 14 staging areas throughout Clermont County where volunteers can register then pickup safety and litter collection supplies. We will have t-shirts while supplies last. Volunteers then meet back at the staging area for a cookout and celebration."

Rex Parsons, Clean and Green Program Chair and member of the Clean and Green Collaborative, encourages all of us to talk with friends, family, neighbors and other members of clubs or civic organizations in order to get more people involved. "We want to get the message out that littering is not socially acceptable in Clermont County. Our goal is to have Clermont County so clean and green that we no longer need to hold events like this!" states Parsons. A computer recycling or reuse event has been added to the Great American Clean and Green Litter Pickup. Computers can be dropped off from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM free of charge at Mark Williams Beechmont Ford to be reused or recycled. The Cincinnati Computer Cooperative is partnering with the Clean and Green Program in this initiative.

The event adheres to strict safety guidelines. Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately for the weather. Shirts, shoes and gloves have to be worn at all times. Volunteers are asked to be extremely careful when picking up sharp objects, such as broken glass and metal. And there are some items that should never be picked up – syringes, soiled diapers, etc.

For more information or to register contact the Clean and Green Collaborative at 513-753-9222 or cleanandgreen@clermont2020.org. Registration and release forms can be downloaded from the Clean and Green page on the Clermont 20/20 website. Volunteers can also register online.
