20/20 Master Recycler Composter - "Outstanding Project"

Clean and Green "Master Recycler Composter Program"
recognized by the Ohio Environmental Education Fund

The Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green "Master Recycler Composter Program" was recognized by the Ohio Environmental Education Fund (OEEF) as an Outstanding Project.  Completed grant projects were examined by independent reviewers to determine which projects met OEEF's highest standards for excellence and effectiveness in environmental education.  The "Master Recycler Composter Program" met and exceeded all standards.  Andrea Kilbourne, Office of Environmental Education said, "I would like to publicly acknowledge this initiative for its remarkable outcome."

The Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green "Master Recycler Composter Program" provided a manual and an 8-week train-the-trainer course to equip volunteers to conduct community outreach programs.  The volunteers involve Clermont County residents in recycling and composting efforts, teach environmental and public health issues surrounding waste disposal. We would like to thank the Adams-Clermont Solid Waste District and the Ohio EPA/Ohio Environmental Education Fund for the funding to create and present the program.

College Goal Sunday 2009 a Big Success

Clermont 20/20's college access program, Clermont Educational Opportunities, partnered with The University of Cincinnati-Clermont College to host College Goal Sunday 2009 for the first time on February 8th. College Goal Sunday is a free event offered throughout the nation on the Sunday after the Super Bowl that helps students and families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the form that is required to apply for federal financial aid for college. Other partners in this event included UC-Clermont Enrollment and Student Services, the UC-Clermont TRIO programs, High School guidance counselors and other community volunteers. Thirty-nine college-bound students and their families participated in College Goal Sunday, and almost all were able to submit their FAFSA online from one of the college's computers. UC-Clermont College hopes to make this an annual event. It helps students and families in the community complete their financial aid applications early, allowing them the chance to qualify for more financial aid.

Safety Tip from Clermont County Sheriff Tim Rodenberg
If you hear something suspicious press the "panic button"

Most vehicles now are equipped with a remote key fob that unlocks your vehicle and is also equipped with a "panic button".  Put your car keys beside your bed at night.  If you hear something suspicious press the "panic button" on the fob for your car.  The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

It's a security alarm system that requires no installation.  Test it and it will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or you reset it with the button on the key fob.  It works if you park in your driveway or garage.  If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar will depart in  a hurry.  Also, after a few seconds, your neighbors may look out their windows to see what is happening.

Carry your keys while walking to your vehicle in a parking lot or garage and the alarm will work the same way there if you are approached by someone.  This could save your life or prevent an attack.

Another application of this tactic is for folks who are advancing in years and could have a medical emergency or fall down in the house or yard away from a phone.  By carrying the keys with them they can activate the vehicle alarm and alert another family member or neighbor that there is a problem.
