Important to Remember History!
Recently, I've spoken to a number of people and groups about the Core Elements that comprise Clermont 20/20's Leadership Program. These are Education, Economic Development, Government and Infrastructure, Safety and Justice, and Health and Human Services. I've commented about how subject matter experts and field experiences help members of our leadership classes LEAD (adult), LOOK (high school) and LIVE (seniors) gain knowledge, understanding, and a sense for the importance these core elements have on Clermont County's quality of life. The overall objective of the leadership program and this particular course of study are to increase the potential for leaders and citizens to become more involved in meeting the challenges Clermont County faces today as well as helping to shape its future.

Clearly, I have failed to include another critical element that is absolutely a part of the leadership program. HISTORY! It's the very first class day of the program. The reason we begin the class year with a historical tour of Clermont County is to enlighten class members about where Clermont County has come since its beginning in 1800, to its more recent history as a community. Knowing where we've been and realizing that others will eventually follow us, provides leadership class members with a historical perspective that hopefully adds substance to what they'll learn during the year. Plus, the history day tour of the County contains a tremendous number of fascinating and sometimes peculiar points of interest that often leave class members with intrigue and curiosity.

I think it's equally important to recognize the contribution of Rick Crawford, Clermont County historian, who from the beginning of the leadership program has been an integral part of Clermont 20/20's leadership program. Without Rick, Clermont 20/20's leadership program would miss this historical perspective and lessen the value of what the program is intended to deliver.

I wanted to correct the record about including History as an essential part of Clermont 20/20's leadership program because it's important and never should be overlooked.

LEAD Clermont: Quality of Life Day!
A Different Approach in 2010

Quality of Life Day for the LEAD Class of 2010 was a different day compared to previous class years.

Significantly, Quality of Life Day was changed to a different format that included Clermont 20/20's Annual Business Meeting and 20th Year Anniversary. Approximately 140 people turned out on March 4th to recognize Clermont 20/20's twenty years of service to Clermont County and to hear about the organization's strategic priorities and performance results. Comments by current board chair Eric Grothaus, chair emeriti Jim McDonough Ph.D., and founding board chair, John Melvin, emphasized the importance, purpose and value Clermont 20/20 has brought to Clermont County. Andy McCreanor, executive director, presented detail about 20/20's strategic priorities and the impact the organization has had on Clermont's quality of life over the years.

The day for the LEAD Class of 2010 focused on individuals' strengths as part of developing a deeper sense of what class members bring to the table, and how they could use their strengths to benefit themselves and Clermont County. The class day was facilitated by Bob Pautke and Annette Ballard from the Career Achievement Network who are certified in the use of StrengthFinders, a nationally recognized program that helps individuals identify their top strengths and how they can best apply them in their life. Class members were impressed with the breadth and scope of the workshop and were given an additional assignment of assessing their strengths to prepare for their next class day, Visioning, which will be held April 1st at TATA Consultancy Services at Park 50 in Milford.

Ed Humphrey, Clermont County Commission vice president, also spoke to the class about the quality of life in Clermont County based on his experiences as a business professional, volunteer firefighter, emergency medical technician, community volunteer and as a County commissioner. Mr. Humphrey related how the role of government can impact a community's quality of life and how difficult it can be for government to balance its role for the good of everyone. Ultimately, Mr. Humphrey emphasized that quality of life means different things to people depending on their needs and values.

Quality of Life Day was hosted by the Holiday Inn & Suites Eastgate.

Look to Clermont
Successful Under the Sea Prom

Six very determined and dedicated students from the Look to Clermont 2010 class spent the last five months planning an "Under the Sea" prom for high school students (ages 15 to graduation) who are enrolled in Special Education Classes in Clermont County. This event took place February 27th at The Day Heights Firefighters Hall in Milford. Everyone danced the night away to their favorites tunes, enjoyed refreshments and left with many wonderful memories.

Committee members: Ashley Abbott, Erik Dearduff, Danitra Campbell, Carly Clark, Megan McDonough & Amanda White.

We wish the following
Alumni and Friends of Clermont 20/20
a Happy Birthday !!!

Happy Birthday Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
Pisceans are usually associated with being extremely creative, sensitive, and artistic, as well as a healthy fascination with the metaphysical and spiritual. Aptly called "old souls", Pisces thirst for spiritual knowledge and personal growth. In the right situation a Pisces can be capable of incredible deeds. The positive nature of a Pisces and the fact that they are tuned into the feelings of others makes them socially popular. They are very intuitive and as a result can be flexible and prosper in many different situations.

March 14 - Chuck Fink, Ascent Leadership, LEAD Class of 2007

Happy Birthday Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Aries are adventurous, active and outgoing. Although they are independent, outgoing and assertive they are also surprisingly trusting, often innocently walking into the lion's den at times. No matter what upheaval, challenge or triumph they confront - an Aries has a wonderful ability to bounce back. Their faith in life and the future remains untouched by hardship. Their gift is that they are always children at heart and the world is always a magical place for them.

March 24 - Tricia Burke, Clermont Counseling Center, LEAD Clermont Class of 1995
March 28 - Matt Gramza, Civil & Environmental Consultants, LEAD Clermont Class of 2009
March 30 - Cyndy Wright, Park National Bank, LEAD Clermont Class of 1994
April 3 - Robin Casada, Key Bank, LEAD Clermont Class of 2005
April 5 - Cindy Hawk, Clermont County Auditor's Office, LEAD Clermont Class of 2003
April 7 - Gene Bishop, Senior Leadership Class of 2002

Please click on the link below and enter your birthday for us. We are creating a birthday calendar for Clermont 20/20. Don't worry, it'll take less than a minute (and you don't have to enter your year of birth).
